Sally exited the Pantin Classic in Spain today after a priority interference call was controversially called against her early in the semi-final heat. After paddling for a wave Sally assumed that she lost priority and paddled deep away from her competitor. The beach commentator called that it was still a white priority so Sally assumed that it had not changed and she paddled back towards her competitor but still deep. The next wave came and Sally took off but noticed the other girl taking off down the line also so she flicked out. Black continued on to score a 7.5 and definitely did not have her scoring potential altered. The judges called an interference anyway. Clearly ASP are running a few interpretations of rules with regards to interferences.
Sally went on to score a heat total of 15.5 which was enough to win the heat (if they had not penalised her a whole wave) and enter the final before exiting the water to discuss the call with the head judge. A disappointing finish to an event in a great location. Despite the disappointment Sally extended her Star series points total to 12120 and still sits in first place in the world qualifying series. Sally returns home for some rest time before heading back to Portugal towards the end of next month.
