Just got back from a trip to the Mentawai Islands. We surfed our way down the island chain and then back up in our eight days at sea. Surfing places such as Bintang's, Roxy's ( that's right; there is a wave named after the Roxy girls as they were the first ones to surf this particular wave, they were captained by a legendary Australian Captain named Albert) Pittstops and Rifles. We stopped off at many crazy cool islands to shoot in the new range of Roxy bikinis and clothing. Most Islands were deserted, but we came across a few with local tribes that lived on some of them. It was amazing to see where they lived and so refreshing to see they made the most of what they had and their surroundings. Although none of them could speak any english, I was still able to play with this group of kids on one of the days we were shooting, it was so much fun, we were laughing and screaming and chasing one another along the beach, we were splashing water at each other and I was throwing the kids into the ocean and we were kicking coconuts around. It was one of the highlights of my trip seeing these island kids just loving life and being so happy.
Our trip felt like it flew by, we were having so much fun. With such a great dynamic within our group, it was impossible not to have a ball. Having Lisa on our trip made it all the more special, a legend in our sport and such a quality person. After a drama filled beginning to the trip (Lisa and the Cameraman missed their flights), the rest went to plan with great waves, the sun beaming and we found beautiful locations to shoot the product in. It was such a great escape, after a busy start to the year with back to back competitions and constant travel. It was perfect timing for Roxy to provide us with a relaxing mid year break from contests to recharge our batteries and work on our surfing.
Happy Days
